Since heatwaves are almost a daily occurrence during this time, protecting our beloved dogs from the heat requires a creative approach. Let's take a look at some original tips to ensure their well-being:
- Make doggy ice cream: Use yogurt, add some vegetables or fruits, and freeze the mixture in ice cube trays. A cool treat they'll love!
- Water play: A small kiddie pool or a large water basin can provide hours of fun and coolness.
- Create a cool resting spot: A cooling gel mat can help them maintain a lower body temperature. You can find such mats at most pet shops.
- Opt for cooling accessories and toys: Similarly to the mat, you can find special bandanas and toys that have the property to cool your dog.
- Use ice packs: Wrap ice packs or a frozen water bottle with a towel and place it in their bed as a quick and economical solution.
- Emergency case: If you notice signs of heatstroke in your dog, such as difficulty breathing, collapse, dark gums, vomiting, or diarrhea, contact your vet immediately.
With a combination of protection, proactive measures, and enjoyable activities, we can ensure that our faithful friends will enjoy a cool and safe summer.
